Seismic refraction tomography
It is similar to the traditional seismic refraction survey, and it is applied when the lateral variations of the mechanic characteristics of the subsoil are more gradual than discrete. By using this technique, a more detailed image of the surveyed structures is achieved and, subsequently, more data is acquired depending on the complexity of the structure and the required detail.
Example of application where a seismic refraction tomography was done to find out the compactness of the materials on a slope. The obtained results allowed other specialists to determine the best methodology to be applied for the slope’s stabilization.
